Me and Kurtcreated Wednesday, April 5th, 2006 2:47:03pmMe and Kurt Vonnegut are pretty good friends. I've never met the guy (who may, in fact, be dead...), but from reading his books I know that him and I are on the same wavelength. I've been fooled before on this count, but honestly, Ben Affleck is an ACTOR, and thus is paid to represent things he doesn't actually reflect in his personal life. That's exactly the OPPOSITE of my Kurt. So I was hanging with Kurt the other day, and he says (writes, whatever), when referring to William F. Buckley, Jr., "If we did not have such an intelligent and genial man (as compared withe General Goldwater, for instance) to argue in favor of social darwinism, some of us might be too appalled and confused to listen, to learn for our own good how uncharitable we had better be." I thought that was a pretty smart, but awfully anachronistic, thing to say in a post 9/11 world. I told him so. He changes the subject! What gall! I don't understand people. And now I guess I don't understand books, either. Oh well, at least I'm not taking any shit from Thomas Pynchon this way. |
