Title: my ballistic helmet
Genre: Eclectic - Chilled, Acoustic, Global Underground
Both Non-Students

We’re a young, soon to be married couple that enjoys listening to and spreading quality non-mainstream music. Our show will begin with 1 hour of music programming featuring artists such as M83, Outhud, The Album Leaf, Cat Power, Four Tet, Kings of Convenience, Mando Diao, The Dining Rooms, Röyksopp and Mogwai. Occasionally portions of this time will be focused towards politically infused music. Tidbits of appropriate history will be injected between sets to encourage deeper understanding of music as it related to the political climate then. For twenty minutes after the first hour of music, we will go into a talk/music segment on media issues and the public domain. We will strive to inform the public of artists and musicians that have worked to find alternatives to the corporate distribution of music. The ultimate goal would be to support these efforts and bring them to people’s attention through an accompanying web page. Topics: Creative Commons, Copyleft, Peer-to-peer networks, Digital Rights Management. The show would wrap up the last minutes with similar music to the first hour.

We are fairly knowledgeable about this material, and look forward to researching what more is out there internationally.

The mass market appeal of these genres tends to be low. Most corporate content developers and broadcasters tend to disregard this market segment as too risky and new. This leaves the void for a hungry “alternative” audience seeking unfamiliar creative expression. We would supply that to this market and hopefully educate everyone on issues pertaining to their roles (and rights) within the media.
